Supporting a Greener Community

At Rabbit, we are very proud to support local community groups, charities, teams and events because we feel we can make a much bigger positive impact on the environment if we all work together. In addition to donating money to local charities, we also provide our waste disposal services to nearby sports teams and community events. Being located in Sussex, we are very lucky to be surrounded by excellent community schemes everyone can get involved with to help the environment and keep our county as waste-free as possible.

Our Involvement in the Community

Christmas Pudding Race

What embodies the Christmas spirit more than people racing through an inflatable assault course whilst holding a Christmas pudding for charity? Not much, we thought. That’s why we donated our commercial bins and waste disposal service to Guildcare’s Christmas Fayre to keep it clear of rubbish. Guildcare are a Worthing-based charity providing services for the elderly, people with dementia, carers and children with disabilities.

Sports Clubs

To encourage young people to participate in sport and keep their facilities waste-free, we donate money and waste disposal services to Chippingdale Cricket Club, Sussex County Cricket Club, Worthing Rugby Club and Worthing Football Club.

Local Events

We also offer our waste disposal and recycling services to Sussex events such as the Billingshurst Show, Littlehampton’s Ironman Swim and Help for Heroes event, the Meadowlands Festival in Glynde Place Lewes, Worthing Fire Station open day, the Ashington Festival, Shoreham’s R.A.F.A Airshow and the Hotham Park Fair in Bognor Regis.

How you can get Involved with Greener Community Projects

A very useful website for anyone who wants to help make Sussex a greener place is Sussex Green Living. This website has a whole host of ideas for the community to get involved with to help the environment. These include:

Recycling

The Sussex Greener Living Company have an initiative to enable people to recycle for a good cause. As some recyclable materials are valuable, these can be collected and the proceeds of selling them given to charities. Also, to recycle within the community, you can use websites such as Freegle and Freecycle to offer your unwanted goods to local people.

Buy Local

Fortunately, in Sussex we have plenty of shops offering local produce. Arundel is currently running a scheme where it promotes such shops around the town. The Sussex Produce Company is another well-known outlet where people can purchase food produced in the local area.

Local Green Spaces

To make our communities greener, literally, there are several community garden and green space schemes around Sussex to encourage people to enjoy outdoor spaces and even grow their own food. An example of this, is the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership, which provides support and advice for people to grow food in the community.
