Residential Skip Hire

The Big Spring Clean

The big spring clean

There’s something so refreshing about spring. Longer days, spring flowers and the promise of the warmth and sunshine to come. It’s enough to make you get your house and garden in order and undertake the infamous Spring Clean. Here, let Rabbit help lighten the load when it comes to your big clear out.

How to save money when clearing out your loft

Your local tip has always been the place to take general rubbish and junk, along with all the things that you no longer need but are no good for the local charity shop either. But watch out for charges that are being introduced at tips for taking your unwanted items, especially if it’s your garden you’re clearing out or you’re finishing a DIY construction project, as you may find there’s a charge to dispose of for items such as stones, soil, plasterboard and tiles.

You might find it’s easier and cheaper to hire a skip from Rabbit. There are a few points to consider when hiring a skip, but Rabbit can guide you through the simple steps and you can book your skip online. Sometimes a permit is required, but this can be handled by Rabbit and your skip will be delivered and removed when it’s full.

How to save time when doing your Spring Clean

If you are having a major clear-out, you might find yourself having to do a few runs back and forth to the tip. So having a skip instead could save a lot of to-ing and fro-ing – time that could be better spent clearing, cleaning or you’re your feet up and a well-earned cuppa.

Skips come in a variety of sizes and types and the smaller versions are perfectly suited for garden and loft clear-outs, or if you’ve been doing some major DIY and you’ve got things like old tiles to dispose of. What’s more, you don’t need to sort your recyclables from your non-recyclables as you go – this is all done by Rabbit.

What items can’t go into a skip?

A skip is an excellent option to consider for a big clear-out of your home or garden. But it’s worth bearing in mind that there are a small number of items that can’t go in a skip, such as paints, solvents, fridges, TVs, monitors, car tyres and products and materials which may be hazardous to people and the environment.

However, with fly-tipping – the illegal disposal of waste – on the rise, Rabbit is committed to helping customers dispose of waste responsibly.

What happens to my rubbish?

Once your skip is full, just call us and we’ll take it away for you – and drop off another if you need it. From there, it goes to our state-of-the-art waste facility where it’s sorted.

Recyclable materials are removed and soil, bricks and hardcore go to the construction and aggregate industries. Metals are sent directly to metal merchants. Plastics are baled before going to specialist plastic pre-processors.

The remaining materials are shredded and screened to remove any additional metals, then burned to generate super-heated steam that drives a generator to produce green electricity. Each year, this is enough to power around 8,000 homes and diverts more than 60,000 tonnes of waste per year from landfill sites.
