What is Recycle Week and why is it important?

Recycle Week 2019 starts on 23 September. It’s an initiative run by the national government recycling campaign Recycle Now, that’s part of the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

Rabbit Group is proud to be an active member of WRAP.

What is Recycle Week?

Recycle Week encourages the public to focus on their recycling efforts by demonstrating the benefits of recycling around the home. Through its network of high street brand partners, Recycle Week asks people to recycle more and recycle better through rinsing, crushing, sorting and separating. And while the evidence points to improvements in our kitchen recycling, Recycle Week will focus on increasing recycling in bathrooms, offices and outdoors too.

How is this Recycle Week different from other years?

In its 17th year, Recycle Week 2019 is cited as the year of the environmental activist, celebrating the work of Greta Thunberg, Sir David Attenborough and other environmentalists. The goal this year is to make recycling the new norm, leveraging the raised levels of environmental concern that continue to build momentum.

Why do we need to recycle more?

Plastics in our oceans, overreliance on single-use plastics and the coffee cup problem are just some of the major waste crises our planet faces. Collectively, we need to reduce, reuse and recycle more and avoid needlessly sending items to the landfill. Rabbit Group has tips on how to recycle more at Christmas, Halloween and Easter when our consumption increases. We’ve also got advice on how to recycle notoriously tricky products such as electricals, batteries, paints and other items that can’t be recycled in a skip.

What is Rabbit’s commitment to recycling?

Rabbit takes recycling seriously. All the contents of our skips are sorted, with recyclable materials removed. We sort plastics, hardcore and metals and send nothing to landfill. We burn what remains in our Energy from Waste facility, powering homes with the green energy this generates.
